Boost Saliva Production by Chewing Gum

Chewing gum creates saliva in your mouth, and saliva contains calcium and phosphate. These minerals neutralize acids that erode tooth enamel.

Look for sugar-free chewing gum that contains xylitol, a natural sugar alcohol that has been shown to reduce the levels of bacteria that cause tooth decay. It’s important to note that while chewing gum can complement good oral hygiene practices, it should not replace them. Another highly beneficial supplement to include in your diet is Vitamin D3. D3 increases bone density and has a hormonal effect on your body that assists with remineralizing your teeth. Our body can’t produce D3, so we need to supplement it.

Or, you can expose your upper body to the sun every day for 15 minutes to turn the 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC) in your skin into D3. Few foods have D3, but some fortified cereals and milk give you more exposure to this critical vitamin.

Take Probiotics

The bacteria in your mouth create a neutralizing effect on the acids and prevent bad breath. Supplement with beneficial probiotic strains that improve your oral bacterial balance. Some strains to look for include the following:
